Frequently Asked Questions

ENGINEERING & STRUCTURAL SPECIFICATIONS

What is the lifespan of a Fortress steel reservoir?

Our reservoirs are engineered for permanent, heavy-duty deployment. Using heavy-gauge corrugated structural steel protected by advanced corrosion-resistant metallic alloys, our wall panels have an expected structural lifespan exceeding 25 to 30+ years, depending on atmospheric conditions and environmental salinity.

Every reservoir is calculated against hydrodynamic water pressure and wind loads common across the African continent. Our corrugated profile inherently increases panel rigidity, while heavy-duty top and bottom scalloped rim bracing ensures structural stability under high-wind conditions, even when empty.

Smaller capacity structures can sit safely on a flat, highly compacted fine-sand base with a structural retaining rim. For our massive commercial and industrial tanks, we supply detailed structural civil specifications for concrete ring beams to guarantee long-term stability under maximum hydrodynamic loads.

Yes. By utilising specialised chemical-resistant liners, our tanks are engineered to store raw process mining water, treated sewage, agricultural fertilizers, brackish water, and various mild chemical compounds. Speak to our technical engineering team to verify liner compatibility.

No. A steel reservoir requires a level, structurally sound base to distribute water weight evenly. Uneven ground causes stress points on the panel joints and liner. We provide exact civil specifications for site leveling, soil compaction, and concrete ring-beam construction.

LINERS & LIQUID COMPATIBILITY

What liquids can be stored in a Fortress tank?

Depending on the specialized liner fitted inside the steel shell, our tanks can store:

  • Potable Water: Food-grade, certified non-toxic drinking water.
  • Agricultural Water: Raw dam water, river water, and borehole supplies.
  • Process & Wastewater: Mining run-off, greywater, and settling pond liquids.
  • Mild Chemicals & Liquid Fertilizer: Specialized chemical-tolerant liners designed for agricultural fertigation or industrial processing.

Yes. All Fortress inner liners feature industrial UV stabilization to withstand intense solar exposure without becoming brittle or degradation over time.

Algae requires light to grow. For open-top agricultural reservoirs, we offer high-density anti-algae shade covers or floating solar covers. For total prevention, our fully enclosed domed steel roof structures completely block sunlight and airborne debris.

SITE PREPARATION & INSTALLATION

How long does it take to assemble a Fortress reservoir on site?

Because our systems use modular, flat-packed steel panels, on-site assembly is exceptionally fast. A standard 100,000L to 250,000L tank can typically be erected, lined, and ready for filling in 2 to 3 days, provided the site foundation is fully prepared in advance.

Smaller/Medium Capacity Tanks: Can be installed on a well-compacted, level earth pad with a fine-sand cushion and a concrete or steel retaining rim.

High-Capacity Industrial Tanks (500,000L+): Require a engineered concrete ring beam around the perimeter to support the heavy wall load. We supply complete structural drawings for your civil contractor.

To maintain our full structural warranty, installations are performed or supervised by certified Fortress deployment technicians or authorised resellers. However, for remote sites, we can provide a dedicated Installation Master to train and supervise your local labor force.

LOGISTICS, PURCHASING & WARRANTY

How are the reservoirs transported to remote or rural sites?

All components—corrugated steel sheets, curved profile sections, rolled liners, and hardware kits—are modular and packed flat on heavy-duty pallets. This allows us to pack massive storage capacity (e.g., a 500,000L system) onto a single standard truck or inside a sea container for remote continental freight.

Every Fortress system comes backed by a comprehensive warranty covering:

  • Structural Steel Shell: Guaranteed against manufacturing defects and premature corrosion.
  • Liner Performance: Guaranteed against seam failure, leaks, and UV degradation under recommended liquid parameters.
